2024 Education Fair – A brief review

more images (1)

The Education Fair in the Maxhütte-Haidhof town hall in the district of Schwandorf on 3 and 4 March was a genuine highlight.

It goes without saying that QUADRUS was also on board! Overall, 93 exhibitors from various sectors showcased their talents. We used our stand to present the wide range of training opportunities at QUADRUS, which met with considerable interest. The discussions we had with potential applicants were highly productive, and our internship programme was frequently mentioned as well.

There was a speed dating session on the second day of the fair, during which school students were invited to sign up for brief introductory talks with various companies. A few of the more inquisitive souls from various schools were keen to learn more about how to get started at QUADRUS.

Recognition for excellent grades

Our QUapprentice Elias put in a sterling performance at the vocational college in Wiesau.

Evidently he had been swatting hard and earned a grade point average of 1.1.

He was awarded his certificate together with the other leavers at the graduation ceremony and was equally thrilled to pocket a cash prize for his outstanding performance from the vocational college board of trustees.

Congratulations from us as well!

Honouring long-standing staff

QUARDUS used the occasion of the staff meeting in December 2023 to honour 31 employees for their 10, 15 or 20 years of service.
We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to the jubilarians for their loyalty and commitment to the company.

05.12.2023

Today we celebrate the superheroes who don’t come in capes – aka volunteers.

It is a day on which we honour all of the amazing people who, out of the goodness of their hearts and without any financial reward, invest their time and energy to help others. Millions of people in Germany volunteer, making a vital contribution to the common good.
Whether it’s in the fire brigade, water rescue, sports club, church, animal shelter or helping refugees – many things would be simply impossible without the commitment of these heroes.

Volunteer Day is a reminder of how important it is to recognise and promote charitable activities. After all, many volunteers work almost secretly and do not receive the recognition they deserve. Despite the appreciation and debt of gratitude we owe.

So we should take time on this day to thank all volunteers for the contribution they make. We can also get involved and sign up as volunteers or support organisations that depend on the assistance of these kind-hearted souls. Let us not forget: we can only build a better society by working together.

Thank you, all you incredible heroes!

Commencement of apprenticeships at QUADRUS

Three “QUazubi” trainees are embarking on their careers with us

Three QUazubis are setting out into the working world at QUADRUS Metalltechnik with the start of their apprenticeships on 1 September. Dominik Forster, Christoph Krech and Felix Lippert are training with us to become construction mechanics.

Apprenticeships are a key focus for management, which is why the new employees were welcomed by the managing directors Alois and Markus Gsödl, together with training manager Dominik Bösl.
After being welcomed, the new QUazubis were introduced to the company and given an initial impression of what the next three and a half years of their training will entail.

We currently have 9 apprentices among our staff. Two QUazubis have also completed their training this year and have been taken on as specialist employees.
Unfortunately, it is becoming increasingly difficult to fill vacant apprenticeship positions. There are now almost two vacant apprenticeship positions for every applicant.

QUADRUS will be training construction mechanics and commercial digitalisation managers again in 2024. We would be delighted if our apprenticeships pique the interests of applicants.
The management and entire workforce wishes the new apprentices a great start to their professional lives.

Parents’ Day 2023

The new training year starts on 1 September 2023.
The new trainees – or QUazubis as they’re known here – visited us last Friday with their parents, who were able to have a look around their children’s future workplace.
Three young men are starting their apprenticeships with us to become construction mechanics in the fields of sheet-metal construction or welding.
It is important to us at QUADRUS that the parents of our youngest employees get to know the company and colleagues with whom their children will kick-start their careers.
We’ve been holding this “traditional event” since 2012!

New semi-trailer

more images (3)

Our new Schmitz Cargobull semi-trailer has a max. permissible gross weight of 36 tonnes.

It is an impressive 13.

62 metres in length and holds a load of around 100m³ – more than enough space for extra large assemblies and individual components.
The semi-trailer serves as a delivery trailer for our clients and is already out on the roads of our beautiful region. Maybe you’ll soon catch a glimpse of it too?

We wish the QUADRUS team happy, safe travels!

Girls’ Day at QUADRUS

26 April 2023 marked “Girls’ Day” across Germany.
This is a day where girls can get to know so-called “male careers” that they would not usually consider when choosing a career.

QUADRUS took part in “Girls’ Day” for the fifth time, opening up its doors to five girls. They were able to gain information and practical experience in the metal-working sector and more precisely, on the construction mechanic career first hand.

Training manager Dominik Nösl welcomed the girls together with their “mentors” Ferdinand and Sebastian, apprentices learning the construction mechanic trade. After a tour of the facility, the girls were able to have a go at machining their own workpiece in the training zone – under the guidance of the two apprentices. After work, each one was able to take their self-made QUADRUS-brand table clocks home with them.

To finish, the girls received a certificate and a QUADRUS shirt. The girls were offered the chance to further their Girls’ Day experiences as part of a one-week company apprenticeship!

There are currently no young women among our commercial apprentices. But the career is just as suitable for girls, something our four currently trained female construction mechanics have more than proven!

2023 – Back at last! “Hightech live!”

After a hiatus of almost four years, the “Hightech live!” project was back up and running from 11 to 14 April 2023. We were able to welcome 12 students from middle and secondary schools, including 4 girls to the “Hightech live!” camp.

The camp was organised by a well-established partnership consisting of QUADRUS Metalltechnik, the companies HORSCH in Schwandorf and emz-Hanauer in Nabburg and the Educational Center of the Bavarian Economy (bbw).

On Tuesday, the attendees visited us in Schmidgaden.
Once they had been welcomed, given a tour of the company and introduced to our apprenticeship scheme, we programmed, laser-cut, folded, countersunk and deburred sheet metal parts for the catamaran. The participants were looked after by three apprentices during their visit.

The support team also included Jonas Baumer, himself a participant of the HTL Camp in 2017, who has been a construction mechanic apprentice since September 2020. At the end of the day, participants were able to take their sheet metal catamaran parts home with them along with a wealth of impressions from QUADRUS and about our apprenticeship programme.

On Wednesday, participants built the plastic hull at HORSCH and on Thursday, assembled the components, including all of the electronics and the solar modules for the drive, at emz.

The project ended with a final presentation. The participants’ experiences of the camp week were presented to parents, teachers, company representatives and political guests in an entertaining way. And of course, the test run of the solar catamarans took place.

At QUADRUS, we want to use participation in this project to reinforce our public positioning as a good, attractive company for an apprenticeship and employer in the region!

“Hightech live!” is a success story for us: So far, we’ve been able to gain six apprentices for our training programme!

We were there: Bildungsmesse 2023

On 26 and 27 March, the Bildungsmesse (Educational Trade Fair) of the Schwandorf district was held in the Maxhütte-Haidhof Stadthalle.
It was QUADRUS’ first time attending a trade fair! A total of 93 exhibitors from industry, trade, healthcare, education and the public sector were represented.
We promoted the training opportunities available at QUADRUS from our booth in the trade fair hall over the two days. Our offer was met with a lot of interest, with some good discussions held with potential applicants during the event! We were also asked about our internship offer on several occasions.

A speed dating session was additionally held on the Monday of the trade fair. It gave students the chance to sign up with the companies represented for a brief, informative chat. Five students from the middle school signed up to speak with QUADRUS.

A digital trade fair offering ran alongside the on-site programme in Maxhütte-Haidhof. On this page, each exhibitor was able to set up their own profile, which would take visitors directly to further information about the company!

More than anything, the fact that companies today have to compete for the favour of students makes the Bildungsmesse a key platform for emphasising the qualities of the apprenticeship spots available!

Two apprentices complete their training

With the early final exam, both successfully completed their three years of training.

Leonie Müller was trained as a Construction Mechanic in the Welding Technology field. Matthias Schreiber underwent the same apprenticeship in the same field.

Both were employed in their future departments from the last part of their apprenticeship onwards. Leonie is a valuable member of our Welding Technology L2, where she welds individual parts to weld assemblies as part of two-shift operation as a MAG welder. Matthias is also part of L2, where he welds and processes aluminium and stainless steel parts as part of two-shift operation as a TIG welder. Our young specialists received a warm welcome from the division.

They were handed their Chamber of Industry and Commerce certificates by managers Alois Gsödl, Werner Prüfling and Hans Maier along with training manager Dominik Bösl. Those present wished them all the best for the future and advised them to embrace the challenges of working life as they transferred to their new roles.

The management and entire workforce wishes them a successful future, both in their professional and private lives.

QUADRUS is presently training 8 apprentices. At QUADRUS, we train apprentices so we can cover part of our demand for qualified personnel with skilled workers trained in-house.

We are currently recruiting apprentices in construction mechanics to start on 1 September 2023.

QUADRUS goes green

more images (1)

Environmental protection and renewable energy sources are also important to our company.

To ensure that this is not just another item on some agenda, we have taken action by installing a PV system with an output of 100 kW on the roof of our new warehouse.

Why did we decide on a photovoltaic system?

  • Environmentally friendly power generation compared to all fossil fuels.
  • The energy source (sunlight) is available in unlimited quantities and is free of charge.
  • No noise, odour or pollutants are generated during the usage phase.
  • With an electricity storage unit, the electricity generated can also be used when the sun is not shining.

Info: A photovoltaic system converts sunlight into electricity by using solar cells.

Start of apprenticeships in Schmidgaden!

Trainee begins professional life at QUADRUS

Our new apprentice embarked on the next phase of his life at Quadrus last week. Sebastian Graja from Nabburg is training to be a construction mechanic with us. Along with 7 other trainees, he is now part of our team.

Apprenticeships are a key focus for management, which is why the new employee was welcomed by the managing directors Alois Gsödl and Hans Maier, together with training manager Dominik Bösl. After a warm welcome, the new employee was introduced to the company and given an insight into the next three and a half years of his apprenticeship.

We wish him a great start at Quadrus and the best of success and fun with his training!

Unfortunately, it is becoming increasingly difficult to fill vacant apprenticeship positions. We still have three vacancies this year.

In Bavaria, there are now almost two vacant apprenticeship positions for every applicant.

Are you interested in an apprenticeship for 2023? If so, you will find all the information you require here on our website in the Careers section.

Commissioning of our 6th laser cutting machine

more images (1)

Update: Our 6th laser cutting machine has been put into operation!

Would you like to know why we decided on a TruLaser 5030 L52?
Here’s why:

  • High-speed cutting in thin sheet metal
  • Quick installation of cutting head
  • Automatic nozzle changer and automatic beam centring
  • Nozzle inspection (detection and automatic replacement of damaged nozzles)
  • High part quality in thick aluminium (sheets up to 15 mm)
  • Easily cuts steel and stainless steel sheets up to 25 mm

All these are optimal aspects for increasing our capacity and meeting the constantly growing demands and requests of our customers.

Schools and QUADRUS

more images (1)

As an integral part of our collaboration with local schools, we regularly organise company tours. On Wednesday, twenty Form 3 pupils from Schwarzenfeld secondary school paid us a visit.

After a short presentation of the company and the apprenticeship opportunities, they were given an extensive tour of the halls and the company premises. Our visitors were particularly impressed by the large assemblies that we manufacture and the machinery, along with the associated acquisition costs!

What was particularly gratifying about this visit was:
One day later, two pupils requested a one-week internship for the coming weeks! We are pleased about the interest in our company and have accepted the pupils!

Successful collaboration despite obstacles

more images (2)

A project between Schmidgaden secondary school and QUADRUS Metalltechnik concluded with the handing over of “Connect Four” games to eight pupils of the school.

The collaboration, led by Ms Paulus (Schmidgaden) and Dominik Bösl (QUADRUS) began in October 2021 with a tour of the company and an introduction to the project of making a “Connect Four” game out of metal parts. For one day each week, four pupils came to the QUADRUS training corner as part of their design and technology class and, with the help of our trainees, created the individual parts.

The collaboration was slated to run for several weeks, but COVID once again interrupted our plans and we had to discontinue the project after just a few sessions. We were unable to start at the beginning of 2022, and then experienced scheduling issues. Hence, our trainees finished the games, as the pupils are currently taking their final exams.

At a meet-up in the inner courtyard of the school, our trainees handed the “Connect Four” games over to the pupils. Over a small snack and drinks, the pupils’ and our trainees’ tactical skills were put to the test in rounds of “Connect Four”.

By collaborating with schools, QUADRUS Metalltechnik hopes to be perceived by pupils as an attractive company for an apprenticeship at a very early stage. As the number of applicants for apprenticeships is constantly decreasing, we at QUADRUS Metalltechnik try to draw attention to our apprenticeships with projects like this.

High performers

Following three and a half years of training, this year saw two of our apprentices successfully completed their apprenticeships after passing their final exams.

Jonas Ram completed an apprenticeship as a construction mechanic with a specialisation in sheet metal construction. Ameer Al-Rubaye completed his apprenticeship as a construction mechanic with a specialisation in welding technology.

Both our young specialists have long since started working as fully qualified members of their teams in their respective divisions: Jonas is employed in our laser and punching technology division, where he operates the laser systems in three shifts. Ameer operates the welding robots in our welding technology division, also in three shifts. All of our young specialists received a warm welcome from their relevant divisions.

What is remarkable about Ameer is that he came to Germany with his family as a refugee from Iraq in 2015. Ameer had to learn a new language and obtained his school-leaving certificate in 2018. He then started his apprenticeship with us in September. He passed the challenging written exam with good grades, even though Ameer has only been speaking and writing German for about 6 years!

They received their IHK exam certificates from the managing directors Alois Gsödl, Markus Gsödl and Werner Prüfling as well as the head of training, Dominik Bösl. Those present wished them all the best for the future and advised them to embrace the challenges of working life as they transferred to their new roles.
The management and entire workforce wishes them a successful future, both in their professional and private lives.

QUADRUS is presently training 10 apprentices. At QUADRUS, we train apprentices so we can cover part of our demand for qualified personnel with skilled workers trained in-house.

We are currently recruiting apprentices (m/f/x) in construction mechanics to start on 1 September 2022.

Women’s power at QUADRUS

Did you know...
that QUADRUS has a constantly increasing percentage of female employees?
Even though the proportion of women in traditionally “male” professions has regrettably been falling since 2019, there are more than 70 women employed in our company, and this number continues to increase every year.
#Womenspower in forming technology, assembly, logistics or even as a trainee construction mechanic.
With us, everyone has the same opportunities

“Ramadama” for a clean environment

At the annual clean-up campaign, our trainees cleaned up rubbish lying around our company premises and disposed of it properly.

The environmental pollution problems caused by rubbish are not immediately obvious.

Rubbish on the ground deprives the plants there of sunlight. Furthermore, rubbish can poison animals and water.

Honouring our long-serving staff

In 2021, the pandemic unfortunately made it impossible for us to hold our works meeting as we would normally do. We finally made up for this in February 2022 by holding a meeting with a small number of people.

QUADRUS management honoured a total of 33 staff for their long service up to 2021 and presented them with certificates marking their 10th, 15th and 20th anniversaries of joining the company.

We would like to express our sincere thanks to all of those staff for their loyalty to the company and support to date.

New QUADRUS Metalltechnik apprenticeship have started

On 1 September, three construction mechanics started their working lives at QUADRUS in Schmidgaden, Germany.

All three – Dominik Lutz from Schwarzenfeld, Jonas Baumer from Guteneck and Nicolas Hausmann from Diendorf – will be trained as construction mechanics. This increases the total number of apprentices at QUADRUS to 19.

Managing directors Alois Gsödl and Hans Maier welcomed the new apprentices together with training manager Dominik Bösl. After being welcomed, the new apprentices were introduced to the company and given a glimpse of what the next three and a half years of their training will entail. The three were also given an extensive tour of the premises. Their training then started in earnest after lunch, when they were taught some of the basics of machining workpieces.

QUADRUS is currently training 19 apprentices in two different professions. The qualifications will provide them with a solid foundation for their future careers. Good training is the key to success, not just for the young apprentices themselves but also for us as a growing enterprise that puts great faith in qualified junior staff.

QUADRUS will be training construction mechanics again in 2021. The application deadline for these apprenticeships is the end of October.

The management and entire workforce wishes the new apprentices a great start to their professional lives.

New QUADRUS apprentices on the way

The apprentice parent evening in July has become a permanent fixture on our company calendar. The new apprentices that will be starting their professional lives with us in September visited our company on Thursday afternoon along with their parents.

Over the afternoon, the parents had an opportunity to get to know QUADRUS a little better and to learn more about what has made us so successful over the past 22 years.

Following a brief welcome, the attendees were introduced to QUADRUS and the apprenticeship programme. The presentation included information on the company’s development and our training concept. This was followed by a tour of the entire company premises. Our visitors were particularly interested in the impressive systems and machines used in the production division.

After the tour, lots of interesting conversations were held while the participants enjoyed some refreshments. Parents were also given an opportunity to ask the management any remaining questions.

As the day came to an end, everyone agreed that the event had been very interesting and that it is important to give parents an opportunity to see behind the scenes of the company training their children.

To be continued in 2021.

Today, two further machines made by Timesavers were added to our sheet metal processing division´s machinery.

With 8 rotary brushes and a feed rate of up to 8 m/min., these machines make deburring our laser-cut workpieces a piece of cake.

They also feature quick release systems for the brushes.

QUADRUS Metalltechnik GmbH says thank you!

We would like to express our sincere gratitude to all of the volunteers/helpers and staff who actively stepped in to help us put out the fire in the extraction system that occurred in our building on Monday, 27 January 2020.

We were only able to extinguish the fire in such a short time thanks to the professional and seamless collaboration and quick and competent actions of our personnel and the emergency personnel who attended (including fire services from Schmidgaden, Stulln, Nabburg, Pfreimd, Schwarzenfeld and Wolfring, an agent from the Federal Agency for Technical Relief and the emergency services).

In a nutshell, the damage was far less severe than initially anticipated due entirely to the outstanding and rapid teamwork of all involved.
Furthermore, we would also like to express our gratitude to all volunteers who contribute their time and energy to different causes.
Volunteers and volunteering enrich our society as a whole and deserve great respect.

Hightech live 2019 – a complete success

The successful ‘Hightech live’ project was held in the district of Schwandorf for the seventh time. This was the sixth time we took part in the project as a company.

This year’s ‘Hightech live’ camp was again attended by 12 pupils from various secondary schools. The camp is organised by a well-established partnership consisting of QUADRUS Metalltechnik, the companies HORSCH in Schwandorf and emz-Hanauer in Nabburg, the State Education Authority in Schwandorf and the Educational Center of the Bavarian Economy (bbw).

Six of the pupils visited us on Monday and six on Tuesday. Once they had been welcomed, given a tour of the company and introduced to our apprenticeship scheme, we programmed, laser-cut, folded, countersunk and deburred sheet metal parts for the catamaran. The participants were well looked after by two apprentices during their visit.

Leonie Müller and Angelo Wagner, who took part in the camp themselves two years ago, have been trainee construction mechanics at QUADRUS since September 2019. At the end of the day, participants were able to take their sheet metal catamaran parts home with them along with a wealth of impressions from QUADRUS and about our apprenticeship programme. Participants built the plastic hull at HORSCH and assembled the components, including all of the electronics and the solar modules for the drive, at emz.

This popular and successful project is predominately organised and funded by the participating companies.

Today, another processing system from Mazak was added to our machining division’s metal-cutting technology.

Thanks to its 2,300-mm stationary table, this system can be used to easily machine even long workpieces that protrude beyond the table surface.

It is also equipped with the latest MAZATROL SmoothG technology.
